Itinerary
DAY 01: PICK UP FROM SRINAGAR AIRPORT TRANSFER TO SONAMARG -85 KMS:
Upon arrival at Srinagar Airport You will meet by our representative and transfers to Hotel. After check in leave for Sonamarg sightseeing to Thaswas glacier by pony ride (Sonamarg Known as Meadow of Gold), Translated as the Meadow of Gold in English, Sonmarg is located in the Ganderbal district. Situated in the finest regions of the Himalayan glaciers, this place is known for its majestic views of the Kolhoi Glacier and Machoi Glacier.
Being an alpine valley, it is a popular tourist destination with grassy meadows providing imposing views of the glaciers while taking a road trip to Ladakh. There are trekking routes from this place to numerous lakes such as Gangabal Lake, Krishnasar Lake and Vishansar Lake. You can also visit the nearby Baltal valley and reach the Amarnath sacred cave.
DAY 01: SONAMARG TO KARGIL-135 KMS:
Starting from the base of the Zojila pass, this is a Himalayan getaway like no other! Located in the Kargil district of Jammu & Kashmir, this place is also known colloquially as the Gateway to Ladakh. Drass Village (2 Coldest Inhabitated place in the World), Enroute have a magnificent view of Kargil war Famous Peaks (Tiger, Tololing), The Drass Valley is an adjacent land that runs along the Drass River.
Trekkers visit this valley to take a trek to the Suru Valley. This is a three day long trek and the route passes through upland villages and green meadows. You can also visit the Pugu Valley from here. This valley is known for its hot springs that has potential therapeutic health benefits.
Kargil War Memorial
Dedicated to the war heroes and martyrs of the Kargil War, this war memorial is a testimony to the selfless sacrifice of Indian soldiers in the Kargil War. There are artef acts, expositions and a memento shop inside the complex. When you are going for a road trip to Ladakh, you can get hats, T-shirts and other such items from the shop.
There is a sandstone wall on which the names of slain Army personnel are displayed. There is also information on the events that led to the war and you can also read about the details of how the Indian Army captured peaks and market their glorious victory. Reach Kargil by evening. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 03: KARGIL TO LEH VIA LAMAYURU.
After breakfast we drive to Leh enroute visiting LAMAYURU, Belongs to Dripung Kagyu (Red Hat). Then we drive and cross the River Indus and reach ALCHI, Ladakh's most loved monastery. Further we drive to Likir, Likirgompa situated atop a windy cliff top overlooking the beautiful village of Likir and CONFLUENCE OF THE INDUS AND ZANSKAR RIVER just after 4 from Nimmu and further to MAGNETIC HILL which defies the law of gravity. GURUDWARA PATHAR SAHIB Nestled deep in the Himalayas, which was built by the Lamas of Leh in 1517 to commemorate the visit of Guru Nanak Dev. Upon arrival in Leh you will met by our representative and check in hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 04: LEH–NUBRA VALLEY VIA KHARDUNG LA 18,390 FT. (120 KMS / 4 – 5 HRS)
After breakfast we drive to Nubra Valley. The road journey from Leh to Nubra Valley passes over KHARDUNG LA (THE HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD IN THE WORLD) AT 5,602 M / 18,390 FT, around 39 km from Leh. From the pass, one can see all the way south over the Indus valley to seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north to the giants of the Saser massif. Nubra Valley is popularly known as Ldumra or the valley of flowers. It is situated in the north of Ladakh between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the Himalayas. The average altitude of the valley is 10,000 Ft. above sea level. Upon arrival in Nubra we check in Camp / Hotel in Hunder for Overnight stay. In the evening you can walk around the tiny villages to see how the locals live in this part of the world. A visit to a Ladakhi home can be arranged. Dinner and overnight at the Camp.
DAY 05: NUBRA VALLEY– LEH (120 KMS / 4 – 5 HRS)
After an early breakfast we check out from the Camp and drive to HUNDER where you have opportunity to ride on a bacterian camel (double humped) amidst the sand dunes of this high altitude desert with snow capped mountains on the horizon. Between Hunder and Diskit you come across sand dunes besides the road. Seen in isolation you could well be amongst the sand dunes of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan. It is indeed a strange sight since immediately on the left of the road is Rocky Mountains that characterize the Ladakhi landscape and in the distance can be seen snow-capped mountains. On the return stop at DISKIT which is the headquarter town of Nubra Valley. Stroll around the bazaar observing the shops and local people going about their daily chores. Diskit is famous for 515 years old Buddhist Monastery, lying magnificently situated on a hilltop, facing the entire Valley. Later we drive back to Leh in the late afternoon via Khardungla Top. On arrival at Leh you will check in Hotel.
DAY 06: LEH TO PANGONG LAKE (140 KMS / 6 HRS)
After an early breakfast we leave for PANGONG LAKE enroute visiting SHEY PALACE, The ancient capital of Ladakh& THIKSEY an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village. After visiting above two monasteries we drive further towards CHANGLA PASS 5486 MTRS. The long easy ascent takes you to Changla pass through its winding roads passing through Sakti Village. Stop at the Changla Pass for a quick photograph session and drive down to the village of Tangtse, where you can relax for a cup of tea. Leaving Tangtse for Pangong you pass through few small villages of Changthang and finally you can have a sudden view of the Pangong Lake situated at 14,000 feet (4,267 m). This famous blue brackish Lake of Pangong is 5/6 Kms wide and over 133 Kms long with half of it’s running the other side of the "INDO CHINA BORDER". One rarely feels so close to nature and environment and the scenery is unforgettable.. Later we drive back to leh enroute visiting HEMIS GOMPA, the largest monastic foundation of Drukpa Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism. Drive further to Leh and check in at our hotel for Overnight. In the evening you can stroll around the market place for some last minute shopping.
DAY 7: LEH - KARGIL (135 KMS.):
After breakfast leave for Kargil, enroute visiting the dramatically located Lamayuru monastery and the adjoining “Moonland” hills. On the way to Kargil you can view the 9-Mtrs. tall rock sculpture of the Maitreya Buddha at Mulbek (7th –8th century AD). Overnight in hotel at Kargil.
DAY 9 : KARGIL-SONAMARG-SRINAGAR (205KMS) :
Early departure for Srinagar driving through Drass (famous as the second coldest inhabited place in the world) and crossing the Zoji-la Pass (11,500-ft. / 3,505 m) to reach hill station of Sonamarg from where it’s smooth driving through the beautiful Kashmir countryside to reach Srinagar. Overnight in hotel/Houseboat at Srinagar.
DAY 10: DEPARTURE SRINAGAR:
Early morning transfer to the airport for taking the flight back home.
